The balance. Work. Life.

I am not talking about the time that you spend at work versus your personal life. I am talking about finding a balance between what you are paid to do, to specialize in, and what you do as a hobby, or personal interest in your life.

This particular topic came to me while reading the recent Steve Jobs biography. I was reminded of how much Jobs had included the fine arts into his life. At times truly immersing himself in it.

This balance of both arts and math, of both liberal arts and technology led Jobs to brilliance. As he is quoted in his recent biography, Jobs realized "the importance of people who stand at the intersection of humanities and sciences, and I decided that is what I wanted to do" (Isaacson).

Take the time to make sure you are a truly balanced individual. You are the core, your work is a benefit of that core and with the rest of your life, the balance within it.

The modern-day renaissance man/woman is harder to find, and is rewarded even less. You must not be just an artists, or just a writer, or only an engineer. You must strive to become more than one side of the coin, and become whole. You have your work. You have your life. Where is your intersection?
