I recently wrote a blog post where I talked about the ability to take criticism, apply it, and move on. Such a very important trait. This trait, skill, etc - is all part of being coachable.
Talent isn't everything. Being a hard worker isn't everything. Talent scouts that evaluate athletes for their fit at higher levels start off with looking at talent, skills, work ethic. But then enters something commonly called "coachability." An athletes inability to be coachable can be a deal breaker. This applies to employees that are also not coachable.
Being coachable is not complicated. This is one's ability, want, desire to quickly accept and change based on criticism and coaching. In my experience I have noticed that the more talent someone possesses the less coachable they tend to be. There is an easy trap to fall into - thinking that you already know everything and are ready for anything. You don't know everything. You aren't ready for anything. I remember when I used to think the same thing - that I could do any job. I know have enough experience to know that that is not true.
Your coaches, your mentors are attempting to pass on their wisdom to you. They are trying to help you combine your immense talent and potential with a wealth of knowledge. So allow yourself to be coachable.
One day, you will be the coach.
Proverb: Only stupid men learn from experience. Wise men learn from other people's experience.
