Everyone wants the map and the compass. Everyone wants to be the navigator and the captain all rolled into one. This is sometimes called "ownership" and "strategy" and many other seemingly important business buzz words. I do include myself in the "everyone" category, and you just might be included too. Maybe not all of the time, but sometimes, many times. It is alright to admit it. It is alright to believe that you know which direction to take. Sometimes, many times, you might be right.
However, wrestling for the map and the compass, as well as the work to keep it puts teams and companies in a perpetual game of king of the hill. This is not productive for anyone. Keep in mind that heading North West is still heading North. Heading North East is still heading North.
Of course, the straightest distance between two points is a straight line. But, it is better than heading in the opposite direction.
I know what you're wanting to ask; what happens when we are going in the opposite direction? Well...get your wrestling shoes on...you should be used to this part. It's the sharing that's hard.
