Instincts vs. Reflexes

A reflex, is an involuntary and nearly instantaneous movement in response to a stimulus. Reflexes aren't controlled by the brain. Quick reflexes can save you in some situations. At the point of reaction, reflexes take over.

Reflexes as they relate to your professional decisions aren't exactly ideal. Re-active business decisions in many instances were never part of the plan, and often derail a long-term plan. Although sometimes necessary, large amounts of re-active business process is a threat to any successful long-term plan.

Instincts, on the other hand, kick in well before any reaction. It's that sixth sense that something just does not feel right, or that it is just the right thing to do. This is also commonly called your gut.

Now I'm not saying its all guesswork. Business sense based on experience, education, natural skills, and wisdom make up your instincts. Your sixth sense grows stronger as you gain experience, further your education, and strengthen your natural skills. Instincts do require the use of your brain (and gut). Trust your instincts.
