Attention is the new currency

I recently attended an advertising conference in NYC and amidst a lot of "let me show you my best case scenario success" and "my method of determining success is better than yours" sessions, I heard a phrase (from David Shing) that might be old to some, but new to me - and I like it. A lot.

Attention is the new currency.

And you know what? It is. What do we want from our prospects? Attention. What do we want from our web traffic? Attention. More time on the page. More time spent watching the video. More time in front of the customer. Everyone wants attention. Customers and prospects want your attention to. They want to know you are listening. You want them to know you heard. Attention. Attention.

So as we create our tried and true (and sometimes experimental) marketing metrics: leads, conversions, click-through-rates, impressions, etc.... How about a goal, a metric, a milestone around attention. What is your attention metric and goal?

Mine was to get you to read this entire post. Thank you for your attention.
