The first 100 days.

United States Presidents are traditionally evaluated after their first 100 days in office. They have spent many months making promises about what they will change, what they will improve, and what they will eliminate. They make strong commitments coupled with sound plans.  A look at their first 100 days evaluates whether they are able to honor these commitments and execute these plans.  I always loved the idea of this kind of evaluation period and I adopted this for myself.

So whenever I take a new role, a new job, etc - I give myself 100 days to make an impact. 100 days to prove that I did mean what I said, that I am executing on my plan, and demonstrate whether it is, or is not working. I recommend that we all adopt this 100 day evaluation period...for ourselves.

The President of the United States has 100 days to boost the confidence of their supporters or prove their critics right. And just because you are not the President, it does not mean that your supporters and critics are not marking off each day on the calendar.. So when entering into a new role, new job, new company...make your first 100 days count.

The clock is ticking.
